List Building: The Money Is In The List

List Building is an essential tool to your online business. Have you heard the online marketing comment that says the money is in the list? It is the truth. The saying refers to the larger your list of subscribers, the more sales you will make.

It is harder to sell to someone new than it is to sell someone who already knows you. This is the logic behind building up a list to sell to. The best way to build your list is to offer a free report on your website. This will of course be related to you website subject matter.

Put an auto responder on your home page of your website. The auto responder will cost about twenty dollars a month. There are free auto responders on the internet but you will better off paying for the service of a well known company.

You should have an area on your website where you offer a free report in exchange for your visitors contact information, namely their email address. You can set up the auto responder to also ask for their address and their telephone number. Make these choices optional if you use them at all.

If you make them required most people will not give that information and simply leave your website. But you do need them to leave their email address. You then send them a message to confirm their subscription. This is so they will not put in a fake address simply to get your free report.

You also want to ask for their primary email address. People have so many trash email addresses that they give these addresses to get free offers and then they never check them again after they get your free report. You now have their email address and now you can send them regular offers related to your website business.

But do not start sending one sales message after the next. People do not like to be sold like that and they will simply opt out of your list. Send them some helpful information for a few weeks and then once you have their trust you can then send them information on your sales offers. With your auto responder you will have the ability to set up your messages and then have them delivered on a scheduled date.

Crazy man on the loose…

I tweeted and blogged elsewhere about this a few days ago – but there has been a development!

This guy is seriously out of his mind.  He’s been releasing video after video showing the actual strategies he uses to build a list of over 278,590 double opted in subscribers.  And this is for real.

His name is Socrates and I’ve been on his list for a while now.  The quality of his information is great.  In IM-speak, he consistently “over-delivers” (it’s an over-used term but in this case it’s accurate).  Anyway, he’s actually sharing information that most marketers wouldn’t dare to tell anyone – you know, the stuff that you actually need to know…

And he is giving it away with no strings attached on his website.  You can check it out here:
http://www.octisage.com/recommends/BuildAListUsingEbay.html

This latest video is on how he uses eBay to build his list – without actually selling anything on eBay.  It’s the sort of thing ANYONE can do.  It is totally amazing!

It’s your choice as always, but you really do owe it to yourself to watch it:

Oh and when you’ve finished watching that video, check around for the video he released last week – that’s really worth the 15 mins it takes to watch.  There’s no sales pitch.  Just great quality solid gold info.

Here’s that link again:

Why Building a List Is Vital to Niche Marketing Success

Internet marketing is like any other business.  It needs paying customers or there’s no incoming revenue.  Just how an Internet marketer reaches these customers is through various forms of free or paid advertising.

There are two kinds of customers: the new customer and the returning customer.  You need both – but one of them is more valuable to you and is easier to get to buy.  It’s the loyal returning customer.  So how do you get and retain this repeat customer?

In Internet marketing, you attract your new customer by offering something of value to them as an enticement to “try you out.”  Usually, this takes the form of a free report, e-course, or something tangible like a DVD or trial newsletter.  The savvy marketer knows that this “free” offer must be of high quality or you won’t be getting a second chance to make a conversion into a sale.

On a squeeze page or opt-in page, you will offer a freebie, and in return your prospect must give their email address and name.  They are added to your list.  The list is created and maintained with an autoresponder service, which is a database that collects the information and sends your future messages on autopilot for you.  I would always recommend you go with a third party autoresponder service to avoid the nightmares of maintaining a double opt-in list.

Then, once they join your list by trying your free offer, they become a “returning” prospect or customer.  At this point, you will keep up the relationship by offering great information and various affiliate and info product offers.

Treat your customers with respect.  Remember there is a real human being at the end of your email list.  Don’t think of them as a wallet to be picked.  Give them genuine, useful information with the occasional “offer” sprinkled in between.  I have found that one offer with four or five “info-emails” works well.

Do this and you will have a nurture a valuable happy returning customer.

Build Your Email List Using Social Media: 8 Surefire Ways

When you are doing business online, it is important to build a list of targeted subscribers to market your products or services to. You want a responsive list and your job is to provide consistent value to them. Whether you have a blog or a website, you should definitely have an opt-in form to capture a visitor’s name and email address in a prominent location.

Two big components of effective marketing are reach and frequency. Reach refers to the number of people you reach with your message; while frequency refers to the number of times each person is reached on average. Frequency builds trust and drives your particular message home.

More people than ever are using social media tools so more of your target market is reachable there today than even just a few short months ago. Take advantage of these top ways to add subscribers when using social media sites so that you can begin communicating regularly with more potential clients and customers.

1) Create an effective profile. What do I mean by effective? Use a real photo of yourself and your real name. Include your location and a good bio–complete, up-to-date and with all contact information.

2) Offer events. A great way to add targeted subscribers is to hold an event such as a teleclass. Invite your followers and friends and direct them to a sign-up page specifically for the event. Let them know that in addition to signing up for whatever the event is, they will also receive a complimentary subscription to your e-zine or other valuable information.

3) Join a Ning network or create your own. Ning is a platform which allows people to create their own social networks online. Anyone can create a network for free around a specific interest.  This is a great tool for getting in front of your niche or target market.

4) Sync your newsletter broadcasts with Twitter. If you use an email list service such as AWeber, you have the option to automatically tweet a link to your newsletter when the broadcast is sent out. Just choose Syndicate and Twitter Update.

5) Place an opt-in box on your Facebook profile. This is something I explain how to do in detail in my free e-course. The Profile HTML application in Facebook allows you to add your opt-in box for collecting names and emails very easily. This way you can capture new subscribers right from your profile.

6) Use social bookmarking sites. Social bookmarking is a way for internet users to search, organize and store bookmarks of web pages.  Have a way for readers to submit posts they enjoy to bookmarking sites (Digg, Delicious, StumbleUpon, etc.) right from your blog. This is a nice way to drive traffic to your site when others come across your bookmarked site.

7) Feed your blog posts to sites automatically. Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn all have tools that will post your latest blog posts on their sites as soon as they are published. This keeps you consistently on others radars.

8) Be helpful and participate often. The best advice I can give for spending time on social sites is to give, give, give. You do not have to spend exorbitant amounts of time there, but when you do use them, offer suggestions, advice and tips. Create conversation as well as join it. People will get to know you this way and want to seek out more information about you.

Take action on several of these tips as soon as you can. It has never been simpler and more fun to build your list online than it is now!

Link Building Most Important Part in Search Engine Optimization

The links to your website are one of the most important factors for high search engine rankings. Many webmasters are sure that inbound links (link to your site) are the most important factor.

If you want to get high search engine rankings on Google, Yahoo and other major search engines, then your website must have many good inbound links.

The Basics of Links Building

It is not possible to get high rankings on Google, Yahoo or other major search engines without good links. Google will only list your website in their search results if they find at least one other website that links to your site.

The more other websites link to your website, the higher your search engine rankings will be. The idea behind this concept is simple: if many other websites link to your website then your website must be important.

In addition to the sheer number of the links, the quality of the links is also important.

Now you’ll learn:

• how links influence the success of your website • how links to other websites can affect your search engine rankings • how to decide if a link is a quality link or not • which links don’t work with search engines How links influence the success of your website There are two main types of links: • links from other websites to your website (inbound links) • links from your website to other websites (outbound links)

Both can influence the success of your website

How links to other websites can affect your search engine rankings

Inbound links influence your website in many ways:

1. All major search engines use inbound links to rank websites. If your site has many good inbound links then you’ll have high rankings on the search engines.

2. Other websites send you new visitors through the links. If you have just 500 links pointing to your site and each site sends you in average only 3 visitors per day, then you’ll get 1,500 targeted visitors per day.
  3. Exchanging reciprocal links with other sites will build a great link directory. Your visitors will bookmark your site and visit your site again and again because you can offer them a valuable resource: your link directory.

The links to your website should be high quality links. Details about the quality of links can be found in the chapter High quality links and low quality links.

How to decide if a link is a quality link or not

While most webmasters are aware that incoming links are important to the success of a website, many site owners don’t know that outgoing links also have an impact on their websites.

1. The positive side of outbound links

Links to other websites show your website visitors that your website can be trusted. You wouldn’t send visitors to other pages if they could find negative information about your products or services on other sites.

Links add value to your website, they show your visitors that you have nothing to hide and that you have confidence in your site. The websites to which you link help your website visitors to put your website into a larger context. If you link to high quality sites with useful content, web surfers will associate your website with these high quality sites.

If you don’t have outgoing links or if you hide your links, then you send your visitors back to search engines. If you offer your website visitors links, you can send leaving visitors to other websites that can send you their visitors in return. Carefully chosen links to outside resources can improve the experience of visitors who visit your website.

Don’t be afraid that you drive people away by offering links on your website. You either have interesting content on your website or you have not. People eventually will leave your website, no matter how interesting your website is. Even you don’t visit your own website all the time.

2. The negative side of outbound links

Links to other websites can also have a negative effect. If you link to websites that are obviously spammers then search engines might ban your website from their search results.

Just use common sense, if a website looks shady or if the techniques on that website look to good to be true (for example: “Get 500 links per day with our automated system”) then don’t link to that website.

High Quality Links and Low Quality Links

As soon as it was clear that inbound links are extremely important to get high rankings on Google, webmasters tried to manipulate the number of links that pointed to their websites.

Webmasters submitted their websites to thousands of FFA (free-for-all) websites and they created automated linking schemes to artificially increase the number of inbound links.

For that reason, search engines improved the way they evaluated links. Nowadays, it’s not enough to have many inbound links. The quality of the links is also important.

Some links will help you to increase your search engine rankings, others don’t.

Struggling With List Building?

List building has been said to be the most important item in building up your internet business. If you haven’t yet noticed the thousands and thousands of free items available out there then you need glasses. Unless you are brand new to the system. From my part I am very glad that the free system is operating so hectically out there.

Why you need a list.

A very true fact is that the vast majority of people very rarely buy on their first visit to a site. Now it could be argued that if you really were interested in a product you would save the link and go back at a later date to buy it. I have done that, so it is true, and to be honest I have yet to buy an item that is repeatedly thrown at me in email form. But the truth of the matter is that the bigger your list the more you can sell to the people in your list. It needn’t be that first item the buyer saw, it could be another option that you can show him, or a third. You could get more details out of them and aim products at them in a more focused way. With a list the options are endless.

But you do need to get a list. How you get it, and how you use it is your own planning, but why throw away the chance to lose a potential buyer.

Take advantage – use the system.

Now here is a thing that I am enjoying immensely. I have given out my email to hundreds of guys with the sole intent to see what they are up to. Firstly I am seeing what they are offering, and some of it I am taking, thank you.

Secondly I am seeing squeeze pages on a daily basis. How much easier is it to learn how to make up a good squeeze page?

I am seeing thank you pages, and learning, I am seeing the many different fonts and styles used. Just how the different types of auto responders are working is an education to me. Thanks guys. It has all been for free. And very well done too. On the other side I am also seeing which I am already tending to not read at all, and some of them are even starting to irritate me.

The most important item that I am going to concentrate on, on my list, is people skills. If my list gets to feel like they are my friends, or at worst, a good source of information, then I am a huge winner. That is the most important fact of all.

I would love to be able to “out” the list guys that are huge in the industry and are seriously working on my nerves. Ever better the others that are doing a good job, and there are only a few of those.

So – Learn, copy, delete. This free listbuilding education I have received has been great, but they will almost all get deleted. So please try to build up your own list with this in mind.

Finally my ending comment about list building is this. Why the hell not?

If you have gone to the trouble of getting a prospect to click on your product, then please for your own sake take the time to politely offer him the chance to allow you to keep him informed and up to date with the type of item he searched for in the first place.

If you give them a choice they are less likely to remove you at the other end. The great part of this is somewhere down the line you already have the basis of an ezine that on its own could earn you huge money alone on Adsense and advertising.

Way cool. Take care.

Online Listbuilding – Don’t Panic If You’re Just Starting Out

Listbuilding may be the way to build an online business, but the major issue remains, “How do you get TRAFFIC to come?”  I’ve build several websites but, to be honest, I’ve never found the teacher who can actually tell me HOW to get traffic “in droves” to come the my website.  I have never found how to bring in significant traffic let alone “hungry customers with cash burning their pockets”.  In my dreams!

But Alex Jeffreys CAN drive traffic.  He can prove it, so I’m really looking forward to Module 4 of his coaching program tonight which deals with traffic generation methods.  Some of my fellow students have been receiving a couple of hundred hits a day to their blogs for a few weeks now – (I wish!) – and others have had dozens of sign ups to their lists and even some sales – but not me.

Actually, I did sympathise with one guy on Alex’s first brainstorming session who said he already felt like he was being left behind as everyone seemed to have very advanced blogs up and running.  I felt for him.  Alex had recommended we visit each other’s blogs and make comments.  However, this was a double edged sword as it was easy to get demoralised by how advanced everyone else seemed to be – OR else so caught up visiting everyone else’s blog that we did not focus on our own blogs.

Big mistake!  By not focusing on my own blog and being intimidated by just how well eveyone else is doing, I forgot a fundamental truth.  I am building my online business for my boys, for my future, and theirs.  So that they will have the time to spend doing vocational pursuits, or anything else they want and not worrying about the money or having to do a job they despise.  I want more for them.  I think everyone wants that for their kids.

Reality check.  There will ALWAYS be someone online more advanced than you.  It’s true that to make the really big bucks you need to be FIRST out the stable door – and YES, the early adopters ALWAYS make the most money.

But so what?  Building an online business is NOT a competition.  There’s a lot of money to be made online.  And the internet business is growing day on day.  Even if you’re LAST out the stable door, you will STILL make money online – I really believe that – but you DO HAVE TO GET OUT the stable at some point.

Alex has set us a challenge of 1500 subscribers to our list.  At this moment, I do not know what would be a realistic timeframe for me to get these subscribers.  But one thing I do know – I will move heaven and earth to get them by Christmas 2009.  Hopefully a lot sooner.

Listbuilding is the key and it will be my primary focus for growing my business next year and automating it is an important linked objective.  After all I want to work ON my business, not IN it!

If you’ve got any great traffic strategies you want to share, feel free to comment!

Build A List One Step At A Time

As you may know, I have been following Alex Jeffreys coaching program to build a profitable business online.  Alex focuses on the importance of planning and on listbuilding.  He continually stresses the importance of being able to see the big picture before you start and planning where you want to go in order to stand a chance of getting there.

Not ground breaking stuff… but as important to an online business as oxygen is to life.

Start small think big.  Build a list one step at a time.  Understand that everyone joining your list is a REAL PERSON.  They are joining for the BENEFITS you sold them.  Not the product features.  The benefits.  They want to know how soon they will be able to leave their dead end jobs and live their dream lives (not how wonderful the listbuilding PHP script is).

But listbuilding is only the start.  Your list must be responsive, or “warm”.  The secret is to building a warm list is to give them value at the very first time they join your mailing list.   I think Alex’s ebook is the perfect tool to help with online listbuilding, stuffed full as it is with useful facts and tips.

I can’t wait until the traffic generating modules!
